ENSEMBLES 2013

High School Attached to Shanghai Normal University

Band of High School Affiliated to Shanghai Normal University

Under the guidance of the school’s running concept “ensure every student of full and harmonious development”, the Band of High School Attached to Shanghai Normal University was formally established in September 2000.
Over the past decade, they have endured great hardships and grown continuously.
The band has engaged the renowned conductor Mr. Yu Xianming to be the adjunct professor, art director and chief conductor. Mr. Yu Xianming---a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, the Baosteel Elegant Art Prize winner and one of Shanghai Outstanding Art Educators. In the long-term artistic practice, Mr. Yu has been paying attention to training the students to play wind instruments in a symphonic style. By virtue of his keen sense of hearing and tension-rich musicality, the texture layers of each piece are highlighted exceptionally clear. Over the years, Mr. Yu has been responsible for training the orchestras of primary and secondary schools and universities, which have won the gold medal and first prize in various competitions.
In order to improve the professional competence of the band, external professionals are invited to guide the training of each vocal part while a rehearsal is organized in the elective class on Thursdays and Sunday evenings, which benefits each member of the band a lot.
