Sunrise String Orchestra (SSO)

 

The Sunrise String Orchestra or the SSO, was established in 2008 under the leadership and tutelage of Mr. Poonchok Kularbwong. The orchestra’s repertoires include Classical music, Thai classical music, International Folk music, new compositions by Thai Award winning composers and others.

In the quest to share music and culture, the orchestra has already traveled far to perform in St. Scholastica’s College in Manila, Philippines, in Musikahan sa Tagum Music Festival 2013 in Tagum City, Philippines, and Nanyang Girls High School in Singapore in 2014. Recently in July 2015, the orchestra was awarded Silver Band (String Orchestra Category) from 7th Bratislava International Youth Music Festival, Slovakia and also performed a concert hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy at University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Austria.

Poonchok Kularbwong holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education major in Violin, from Chulalongkorn University. He was selected to be one of the representatives of Thailand to join The New Name Orchestra of Russia in a concert in Bangkok. He used to be a member of The Chulalongkorn University Symphony Orchestra and The Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. He conducted The Karusart Symphony Orchestra and the 1999 Suzuki Concert in Bangkok. He was the concert master for The Chulalongkorn University Symphony Orchestra during the Memorial Concert for Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana. He has been a violin teacher at Chulalongkorn University (Faculty of Education) since 1999.

He is the founder of Sunrise String Orchestra and conducts many concerts both in Thailand and abroad such as at St.Scholastica’s College in Manila (the Philippines), the Musikahan sa Tagum Music Festival at Tagum City (the Southern Philippines) and Nanyang Girls High School (in Singapore). Recently in July 2015, Sunrise String Orchestra was awarded Silver Band from the competition (String Orchestras Category) in 7th Bratislava International Youth Music Festival, Slovakia.
