Founded in 2004, in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, the Associação de Músicos Brasil Escócia has consolidated itself as an important cultural, educational and social reference in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
Focused on the artistic, humane and citizen-oriented education of children, teenagers and young people through musical education and cultural exchange, the institution develops social inclusion projects aimed mostly at vulnerable communities, using music as a discipline, belonging, self-worth and social transformation tool for the territories in which it acts.
The ensemble specializes in teaching the traditional Scottish Bagpipe and Percussion, making it a pioneer group of this artistic segment in Rio de Janeiro. Its musical identity stands out by the fusion of Celtic music elements and Brazilian rhythms, creating a unique sound profile marked by technical excellency, artistic sensibility and cultural richness.
Over more than two decades of activities, the Associação de Músicos Brasil Escócia has performed an important social role in preventing violence, social exclusion and young people’s engagement in risky situations. The project offers free Musical Theory classes, Instrument Practice and group activities to participants ranging from 12 to 28 years-old.
By the relevance of its cultural and social role, the group has received acknowledgement from press and public institutions, participating in festivals, cultural celebrations and artistic events in Brazil and abroad, promoting cultural exchange and social transformations through music.

Conductor and Musical Educator

Jhonny Mesquita is a conductor, musical educator and brazilian cultural producer, acting in the music field since 2006, in Rio de Janeiro. His trajectory combines artistic formation, musical education and the development of sociocultural projects aimed at the education of young musicians.
He stands out particularly by his work with group practice and the teaching of the Scottish Bagpipe, contributing to the technical, artistic and social development of his students through music.
Along his career, he has participated in exchange programmes and musical formation with prominent international musicians, such as Jim Campbel (Scotland), Ken Eller (Canada) and Marco Kreissl (Germany), broadening his artistic and educational view.
His cultural and educational activities have granted him important recognition, including the “Best Of The Year” (2010), honor from the Rio de Janeiro City Council (2012), Cultural Personality (2014), in addition to honors related to the promotion of culture and peace.
Sua atuação cultural e educacional lhe rendeu importantes reconhecimentos, entre eles o In 2017, he was recognized as an Ambassador by the Divine Académie Française, in recognition of his cultural and artistic contributions.
Besides his artistic activities, Jhonny Mesquita also acts as an educator at the Reference Center for Autism in São Gonçalo, using music as an inclusion, communication and social transformation tool.
