ENSEMBLES 2026
Taipei Municipal Lishan Junior High School Symphony Orchestra

The Lishan Junior High School Symphony Orchestra is a rare and comprehensive music program among general schools. Its structure includes a symphonic band, string orchestra, full orchestra, and percussion ensemble. The program is dedicated to enhancing students’ musical literacy and teamwork skills, achieving outstanding results over the years. The current director and chief conductor is Ms. Lee Shiao-Cheng, with guest conductor Mr. Lin Tsen-Ling.
As interest in music continued to grow, a string orchestra was established in 2007 and later integrated with the symphonic band in 2008 to form a full orchestra. In just its second year, the orchestra advanced to the finals of the Taipei City Music Competition. It has since won first place in Taipei City for 20 consecutive years and qualified for national competitions. Notably, it achieved Second Place with Highest Distinction in the national A Division (music-specialized class category), earning widespread recognition.
In addition to its competition achievements, the Lishan Junior High School Symphony Orchestra actively promotes international exchange. Since 2014, the ensemble has traveled to Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, and Shanghai for exchange performances with local school orchestras, and has collaborated with several award-winning Japanese conductors. In 2017, it held its third homestay exchange with Kaisei Junior High School in Japan, and after the pandemic, resumed exchanges in 2023 with Shugakusha Junior High School and Kaisei Junior High School. In July 2024, the symphony orchestra participated in the Sydney International Music Festival in Australia, where it won the only Gold Award in the orchestra category and was selected as one of the closing concert ensembles. During the festival, the group performed at prestigious venues such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Town Hall, showcasing the musical excellence of Taiwanese students. Through continuous international engagement and stage experience, the Lishan Junior High School Symphony Orchestra not only strengthens its music education outcomes but also broadens students’ global perspectives.
