ENSEMBLES 2026
Millennium Academy Orchestra

The Millennium Academy Orchestra (MAO) is a Hong Kong-based training orchestra for young musicians, founded in 2025 through the partnership of Amicis Sinfonia and the Millennium Youth Orchestra. The orchestra brings together enthusiastic students from across Hong Kong, offering them a supportive environment to develop as performers, teammates, and leaders. Guided by experienced conductors and tutors, MAO members participate in regular rehearsals, sectionals, and masterclasses that build essential ensemble skills. The orchestra's repertoire spans classical masterpieces, contemporary works, and festival favourites, and each student receives individual feedback to help them grow in technique, musicianship, and artistic expression. Beyond the rehearsal room, MAO is committed to connecting young musicians with the wider world. Through public concerts, collaborations, and international tours, students gain valuable stage experience, encounter new cultures, and share the joy of music-making with audiences far beyond Hong Kong.

Kelvin Wan is a Hong Kong-based conductor, violinist, and percussionist who has studied orchestral conducting with Dr. Jennifer Ho and Mr. Angus Lee, and participated in masterclasses as an active conductor with Zahia Ziouani, Yip Wing-sie, and Philippe Fournier. He began his musical journey at age 15, studying violin under Miss Marvel Wong, and later took up percussion studies with Dr. Deborah Waugh at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Wan studied music at HKU and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he is a recipient of the CUHK Master of Arts in Music Fellowship and conducts musicological research under the supervision of Prof. Li Ka Chi Edwin. He made his conducting debut at the 2021 HKU Inauguration Ceremony, leading both the HKU Orchestra and Choir. In 2022, he founded the Amicis Sinfonia and serves as its Music Director. Under his leadership, the orchestra won first prize in the Symphony Orchestra category at the 2024 Vienna SCL Festival and toured Tuscany, Italy in 2025. He serves as a violinist with multiple local orchestras. Wan is active in arts administration, having worked at HKU MUSE and the West Kowloon Cultural District. He currently serves as Advisor to the HKU Orchestra and Honorary Secretary of the HKU Cultural Association. He previously served as Chairperson of both the HKU Orchestra and the Joint University Performance Organising Committee, where he fostered musical collaboration among universities in Hong Kong.
