The HKUGA Symphony Orchestra offers invaluable opportunities for talented musicians to cultivate their skills and uncover their potential. Through rehearsals, competitions, and performances, the orchestra fosters students' confidence and instills in them a profound sense of responsibility. With the unwavering dedication of its musicians and steadfast support from the institution, the orchestra diligently strives for continuous improvement and the refinement of its musical prowess. Under the expert guidance of Music Director Ms. Eleanor Luk Yin-hung and Conductor Laureate Mr. Maurice Poon Po-choi, students cultivate a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration. Their collective efforts have afforded the orchestra numerous opportunities to partake in a diverse array of music festivals and events.

Conductor

Poon, a distinguished Hong Kong contemporary composer and conductor, is deeply committed to advancing music education. With a wealth of experience in conducting, Poon has demonstrated exceptional leadership since 2004, leading orchestras to victory at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival for an impressive 25 consecutive years. Currently serving as the Conductor Laureate of HKUGA College and HKUGA Primary School, Poon has guided music teams to numerous victories, securing top honors in various competitions across Hong Kong. A dedicated conductor, Poon imparts his unique style and extensive expertise to nurture and develop his teams. Moreover, Poon embarked on his musical journey at a young age, mastering the saxophone. Graduating with distinction from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a specialization in Composition, Poon pursued further studies at the Conservatoire de Paris, studying under the tutelage of esteemed composer Gérard Grisey.
