High School attached to Shanghai Normal University

High School Attached to Shanghai Normal University was founded in 1958 and is one of the first experimental and model senior high schools, which is under the dual leadership of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai Normal University. The school has been successively awarded the titles of "Art Specialty School of Shanghai" and "Advanced Collective in School Art Education of Shanghai". Under the guidance of the educational philosophy of "enabling every teacher and student to achieve full and harmonious development", the school wind Orchestra was officially established in September 2000. In 2012, it became a member of the Shanghai Student Art Troupe. For more than two decades, the wind orchestra has forged ahead through hardships and gradually become the greatest highlight of the school's art education. Basically, there are 65 members. Mr. Cao Peng, a renowned conductor, has been appointed as the chief art advisor, and Mr. Fan Qing has been employed as the art director and chief conductor. To enhance the professional quality of, the school (orchestra) has invited outsourcing professionals to guide the training of each section. Through continuous training and joint practices, the level of the orchestra has improved by leaps and bounds. As a member of the Shanghai Student Art Troupe, the school Wind Orchestra, under the leadership of Principal Huang Yuehui, has achieved remarkable achievements over the years and is committed to further expansion of its radiation and taking the comprehensive improvement of the artistic taste of the entire population as the ultimate goal of its development. Firstly, combine the construction of the orchestra with students' social practice activities, making it an important force. Secondly, combine the construction of the orchestra with that of the clubs, making it the backbone of the school clubs. Thirdly, integrate the construction of the orchestra with that of the class, making it a nuclear force in class meetings and the Youth League organization activities. Fourthly, unite the construction of the orchestra with the community service, radiating to the community, enriching the cultural life of residents in their spare time, and contributing to building a harmonious society.

Member of the Low Brass Committee of the China Musicians Association, Council Member of the Wind Music Committee of the Shanghai Musicians Association, Endorser of UltimateBrass (USA), Denis Wick Artist (UK), Judge of the Jeju International Brass Solo Competition (South Korea), and Judge of the New Zealand International Brass Competition. At the age of 16, Fan Qing began studying in Vienna under renowned mentors, including former Vienna Philharmonic Principal Trombonist Dietmar Küblböck, Bruckner Symphony Orchestra Principal Trombonist Friedrich Loimayr, and British euphonium virtuoso Steven Mead. From 2005 to 2009, he studied at the Bern University of the Arts (Switzerland) under euphonium soloists Thomas Rüedi and Roland Fröscher, earning a Master’s Degree in Euphonium Education with honors. Concurrently, he pursued studies in conducting under Ludwig Wicki and Rolf Schumacher, as well as composition under Oliver Waespi, completing a Master’s Degree in Conducting in 2011. During his time in Europe, Fan Qing performed as a soloist or guest musician with prestigious ensembles across Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Japan, and China, including the World Youth Wind Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic Wind Orchestra, Brass Band Rapperswil, Brass Band Berner Oberland, Concert Band Roitham Austria, Concert Band Eidenberg Austria, and La Landwehr de Fribourg Switzerland. In 2011, he joined the Dunshan Symphony Wind Orchestra (China) as Co-Principal Euphonium and Assistant Band Manager, contributing to nearly 100 performances and recordings. The orchestra made history as the only Chinese ensemble invited to the Lucerne World Music Festival, where their concert achieved remarkable acclaim. As a guest musician, Fan Qing has collaborated extensively with leading orchestras in China, including the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Opera House Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, China National Opera House, Guiyang Symphony Orchestra, Xi’an Symphony Orchestra, Hebei Symphony Orchestra, and Qingdao Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, he founded the Shanghai Brass Workshop Brass Band, China’s first British-style brass band. As a conductor, Fan Qing led ensembles such as the Brass Band Rapperswil, Brass Band Oberburger, and La Landwehr de Fribourg in Europe. After returning to China, he served as Artistic Director for numerous school and youth orchestras, including:
