Roland Horvath, member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, was born in Vienna in 1945. He studied horn at the Music Academy in Vienna with the renowned professors Freiberg, Kainz and Veleba from 1957 to 1975, while at the same time pursuing his M.S. degree in mathematics and music education. Horvath became a member of the horn section of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1965, joined the Vienna Philharmonic in 1981 and in that same year also became the president of the Vienna Waldhorn Society. In addition, Horvath is Professor of Music at the prestigious private Viennese High School, Theresianische Akademie, named after Empress Maria Theresa.
He has performed as a soloist throughout the world, and has been featured on several albums and broadcast recordings. Horvath is one of the few horn players who remain loyal to the Vienna Horn in F, known for its exceptional beauty of tone, despite the greater technical demands of the instrument.
