Maighrèad McCrann

Maighrèad McCrann was born in Dublin and studied violin and piano at the College of Music. Having graduated in composition from Trinity College, Dublin, she then continued her studies in Vienna with Ernst Kovacic. She was a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe from 1987 till 1993 when she won the position of First Concertmaster of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist and chamber musician she has performed extensively in all the major European cities, playing concertos with Albert Rosen, Ulf Schirmer, Heinrich Schiff, Sian Edwards, Carlos Kalmar, Pinchas Steinberg und Bertrand de Billy. She has played baroque violin in Nicolaus Harnoncourt´s Concentus Musicus und was appointed Professor of violin in the University for Performing Arts in Graz in 1997.

In addition to giving master classes and coaching orchestral musicians in the Wiener Jeunesse Orchestra, the Spanish National Youth Orchestra and the National Orchestral Institute in Washington, she also enjoys a versatile career directing from the violin.
