“Janger” Horse Head String Instrument Teenager Band


The hero Janger, name giver to one of China’s three great epics of the ethnic minorities, first appeared in the early 13th century. The origin of the epic is based at the Hebukesai Inner Mongolia District, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, and has given rise to a special kind of Mongolian traditional music, focussing on the horse head string instrument. The Janger Horse Head String Instrument Teenager Band was founded in August of 2006 .Their major performance programs are based on the melodies of this important epic. In the past three years, it was supported by the local culture bureau and local government. It has taken part in the opening ceremonies of the 1st Janger Culture Festival and the 9th "Nadam Fair”, performed at the Janger Concert at the Janger Theatre of Hebukesai in 2006 and has received numerous awards, such as the 1st prize at the “Flower Bud”Cup Teenager Culture Competition in 2008, the 1st prize in the “2008 Olympic Qualification” Competition in Xinjiang Autonomous Region and the Golden Prize at the Beijing “Olympic Culture Festival” in July of 2008. The group was further invited to attend the 2008/2009 Asian “Teenager Musician” Music Festival and the Chinese National Instrument Competition in Hong Kong in February of 2009.
